11th Feb National Drags Killarney

2 February 2012 3 Comments

The WPMC is proud to announce that it will once again be hosting a round of the MSA National Drag Championship leg for Streetcars and Motorcycles at Killarney on Saturday 11th February. With Killarney playing host to the first round of the 2012 F1X National MSA Drag racing championship, exciting entries have already been received from some top car and motorcycle competitors. This is the third year that Killarney will be hosting this National road show. In previous years the WPMC managed to bring down several 8 second demonstration cars while this year’s top attractions will include a certain “Mr Johnny”, he happened to be at the track during the last National Drag racing round in 2011 and was so impressed with the 8 second Green monsters of the Fourie family and the Killarney racing circuit that he has decided to bring his own Nitro Funny Car all the way from Europe (Sweden) with a Ford GT40 for Classic car racing.

For the drivers making their way from far up North this event is important to start their championship lead as points are doubled for these competitors from another region. Local top guns expected to return include Bad Brad (Pro-fit Golf), Tolla Daniels (mad fast black Escort), Alwie Lester (Escort) and Oom Willie Nel in his Can-Am. Hermann Mostert will be making his way from Mossel Bay to take part in with his 10 second Nissan Champ backie. Michael Kayser managed a 10.401 second run at the last event and has made even more improvements lately. Hot on his heels in class X is Glen Harker (11sec Toyota Corolla) and Shaun Potgieter managed 11.302 in his highly impressive VW Caddy. Will we see the large group of motorcycles return to Killarney on Saturday to improve on their personal bests? Sharief Reynolds will be pushing hard to fly the Cape flag high, only fractions away from the 8 second time slots (9.099 second GSXR) or will Heinrich Slamet manage to improve on his 9.270 run at the last event on his GSXR. It was very impressive to see nine motorcycles manage sub 10 second runs at Killarney in December.

The local competitors entries will be accepted at the main gate caravan from 7am on the morning of the event (and MSA licence applications will be available). Action on the track will kick off at 8am for all MSA licence holders and they will run into the late afternoon till 5pm, this will be followed by prize giving for the days competitors in the WPMC Clubhouse from 6pm.

Street2Strip action will start at 6pm and follow into the evening till about 11pm; entries will be accepted at the main gate caravan from 5.30pm and will be limited to the first 200 competitors to give all a fair chance to run on the strip. Entries for Street2Strip will start at 5.30pm and run through until 7pm.

Various food stalls will be available at the facility or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments to keep you hydrated for the day.

Be one of the few to catch these amazing vehicles tearing up the Killarney Drag strip on Saturday 11th February. Please don’t forget that the Sunday is a rain date and if need be we will host all these events on the Sunday rather, the Street2Strip event will have to end by 9.30pm due to it being a Sunday.
