Club 1Twelve, where the Bass Addicts dwell…

9 November 2010 2 Comments

My November the 5th ended with a BANG! Not the sound of firecrackers, but the sound of dB’s! I joined Grant, owner of Team Auto Punks, and his crew for their weekly sound off event at Club 1twelve in Wetton. The “Sound Off” competitions started in October this year and it’s currently in its second phase. It use to take place on a Thursday evening but was shifted to 19.30 on a Friday evening. The competition takes place over a period of three weeks with the fourth week being the finals. I decided to go with my buddy, Dean’s bakkie, as it was fitted with a banging sound system. We arrived on the scene not knowing what to expect. This was my first sound event since I have traded the ‘sound scene’ for the ‘show scene’ in 2006.

As I walked around in the parking lot, I noticed that most of these cars are from the VW brand. The only other brand of car competing was a Black Toyota Tazz. It was also the loudest “Bass boxing” competitor for the evening with a 146.08 dB reading. This man is known as the “King of Bass boxing” in Cape Town. Daniel, owner of a black and white Mk 2, 1600 8v Golf, represented CTSR Crew. This car is packed with a new ice install consisting of 2 x 12 inch Starsound triangular subwoofers, powered by a RA 4000W monoblock amplifier. On his first run, he did a 133.08dB in Stock 2 category and later improved it with a 140.5dB. Joshua and his white Golf Mk 3 represented Bassmasters. He had a nice setup consisting of 2 x 15 inch Starsound subwoofers powered by a 2100w Starsound monoblock amplifier. He hit a 137.58 dB on his first run in Stock 2.

A car that really impressed me was a white Polo Playa owned and driven by a guy called Brady. It was his first time competing. He was running 2 x 15 inch Sony 1500w subwoofers powered by a 5500w Targa monoblock amplifier. He managed to hit a personal best of 138.2 dB. Shad-Lee, from Team Db, was running a full Targa setup. He tried to beat his personal best of 139.58 dB but only managed to hit a 138.58dB. Another familiar face in the game was Emo representing Team BOYZ TOYZ. He is known for competing with 1 x 12 inch in his blue Conquest but came to play with his other toy, a Mk1 Golf. It was fitted with 2 x 15 inch Targa subs running from a Starsound D7000 amp. He managed to hit 148.77 dB in Stock 3 category and did a 145.52 in Bass boxing! Team MAX DB came all the way from Stellenbosch to compete and managed to hit a 146.66 in Stock 1 with only 2 x 10 inch Targa D2 subwoofers, powered by a Starsound 5000z amp.

One thing was clear; these guys came to compete and not to show off. No one came with fancy installations; it was all about “war against silence”! As the evening progressed, more cars started to roll in. Unfortunately, I could not stay longer-I have a curfew, lol! If you are into Db’s, then 1Twelve is the place to be on a Friday evening. For more info, give Grant a buzz @ 084 5839295. I had a great evening with all the “Audio Addicts” and cannot wait for their next event! Big thanks to Grant and Team Auto Punks for inviting me and PLEASE keep up the good work!

Until next time, keep it loud and clear…God Bless!

Nice JK. The guys pulled some nice numbers I must say. This sounds like a great idea on having soundshows every Friday. Is this some kind of leugues the guys compete in?
