De Waveren Car Show

14 December 2010 2 Comments

Team dB in conjunction with Team Autopunks, hosted their first Car Show event on Saturday, 11 December at De Waveren Primary School in Ruyterwaght, Cape Town. The event featured a “Sound Off”, “Show and Shine” as well as a “Bikini Car wash”!

I was approached by the event organizers to judge the “Show and Shine” cars. It was my first time doing this and man, what an experience it was.

Dean’s beautiful blue Conquest, Rodney’s flipped colour lambo’d door Bantam and Abdul’s black banging Corsa Utility were some of the cars on display at the “Show and Shine” area. There were also some nice looking old school 70’s Mercedes’ and 80’s BMW’s. A car that really stood out for me was a red and black Conquest belonging to a guy called Donovan. His front bumper alone was made from five different bumpers coming from a Subaru, Quantum and other cars. Besides the unique body styling and awesome colour sprayed by LUX Bodyworks, the car was packed with some decent ice in a custom boot install. The sleeper 1300cc engine was replaced with a twin cam 16 1600 supercharged engine. This car is definitely a must-see in metal to appreciate the detail! Jeandre, from Team Toy Freaks, pulled up in his mint ’76 Corolla SR4. The car still has the original red colour and tan leather-look interior and it sits low on a set of 17 inch Lenso Reizen rims-nice! The engine bay is his pride. The motor sports a 3T modified cam, worked internals and some side drafts. The BM Squad and Team Toy Freaks (all the way from Paarl-again) were the only two car clubs supporting this event.

The “dB heads” had a time of their life at the “Sound Off” area. Cars lined up for dB readings throughout the day. Joshua, from Team Bassmaster Inc., represented his team well. There were some nice dB readings and once again Emo and Justin wowed the crowds with their dB numbers. Emo managed to do a reading of 149,6dB using four 15 inch Targa woofers and Justin a 150,5dB using two 15 inch Targa woofers. Ralton, from Team Basix, had a dB reading of 143,69dB with two XTC’s 12 inch subwoofers. Dennis, that pilots Cape Town’s loudest Escort, managed to do a dB reading of 146,11dB’s. This car is equipped with four 15 inch Targa Streets, running from one Targa PRO D2 amplifier. My boy, Shad-Lee, managed to do a dB reading of 139,39dB’s. But the day belonged to Nico from Team Hectic in his white Starsound equipped Golf. This guy hit a personal best of 155,31dB with two 15 inch woofers! The keys in my pocket were vibrating and I was like standing 20 meters away from his car.

The bikini car wash drew most of the crowd, not only males but some females also. That was something I found strange because the cars were washed by sexy females! The guys of Team Toy Freaks had their camp right next to the washing area and were more wet than the girls, Carrie and Jody, who washed the cars! Those girls did an awesome job, no wonder Yaseen’s beautiful pink Caddy took third place in the “Mini Trux” category. Mark from OBS ink brought his Tattoo business to the show. A lady from Paarl called Leonore, was first to have her tattoo done. I’ve noticed that he tattooed a number of ladies and only one guy! Uncle Charlie kept the ladies and gents happy with his beer garden while the kids jumped their lives away on a jumping castle. I think that uncle Charlie made the most money on the day! The day ended with the guys spinning their wheels as they left the school premises. Wilbur with his blue twin cam 20v powered Corolla, silenced the crowd as he spins on 17 inch wheels. Not to worry though, as long as the tuner of the club, Fabian of Skip Racing Development is with him, he can do what ever he wants with his car.

Special thanks from the organizers, Team DB and Team Autopunks, for everyone that supported the event-BM Squad, Team Toy Freaks, Bassmaster Inc, The Three Amigo’s, not forgetting the crew of Team Autopunks and Team dB as well as the competitors and the community! With that said, until next time…God Bless!
