DIY – Building A-Pillar Tweeter Pods

27 February 2013 4 Comments

It’s been a while since my last DIY so I’ve decided to build some a-pillar tweeter pods for my Kicker tweeters.

1. My first step was to get the correct angle. The set of tweeters that I’ve bought came with various fittings making the building process a bit easier.

2. I stuck the fittings to the pillars using hot glue. After the glue has dried I made sure that the angle on both mounts was exactly the same.

3. I proceeded to mix up some body filler and started spreading it all around the tweeter mounts.

4. After the first layer was dry I’ve sanded the body filler smooth with 320grid sanding paper and applied a second layer to fill up all the small holes and pit marks.

5. I then used a 1.5 inch holesaw to make a circular cut out on my a-pillar plastic covers.

6. Fabric was sourced to match the interior of the car. I’ve applied contact glue to both the panel and the vinyl and let it dry for 5 minutes until very sticky then carefully started laying down the vinyl to the pillar, working from the one side of the panel.

7. Fresh new look, a-pillars installed, not only looking good but also sounding good.
