National Drags and Street2Strip

17 May 2011 No Comment

The WPMC is proud to announce that it will once again be hosting another round of the MSA National Drag Championship leg for Streetcars at Killarney on Saturday 21st May. This will attract several top quart…ermile experts from far North to the fair Cape for some serious sprint racing on the Killarney main straight where this event will count towards National Streetcar Status. Last year was the first time this event was held at Killarney and was a huge success with the crowd seeing several 8 second runs from the demo cars brought down all the way from mine dumping country. Mr Fourie and his team will be making a return visit for this event and this time they have confirmed all three cars will be coming, last year the Funny car was a welcome surprise however only managed one run and had to retire with mechanical failure. The RAIL Dragster vehicle will once again be driven by the fastest lady in the country, Vanessa Fourie, and that hugely impressive Escort will also be making a return to better his previous 8 second run on the Killarney main straight.

Great interest has also been shown from other National competitors including some Ford ST riders and a number of National bikers are expected to join. The pits will also be filled with some of the regular top quality drag cars we hope to see quite a few new faces from all over the country. Home ground advantage could play into the hands for guys like Hermann Mostert who recently achieved a 9.34 second run at Killarney or will we see veteran Willie Nel brake the magical 10 second barrier, Mr Nel only the smallest gap away from this at recent events. Don’t miss Luc Lucchesi in his always reliable ultra quick Opel Corsa, said to be the fastest out there. Other names to catch in action could include Keith van der Poel (Manta), Gary Wilkins (Chev Camaro), Nicolas Kuiler (Mazda) or Fracois Roux in his ever quicker and quicker Datsun. Wesley Lewin and Tolla Daniels will have the Cape crowd begging for more if all goes their way on the day. Sharief Reynolds leads the way on two wheels achieving 9.14 on his Suzuki GSXR, will we see Sharief break into the 8’s. Other top bikers include Garion Slamet (Suzuki GSXR), Shaun “Kat” Fortuin and the always quick Yusuf Patel.

The NEW PITS facility will also see action all day with the theme there being the ever popular TOW SHOW, be sure to visit this area with much to see and do for the whole family. Tow Show attractions here include a tug of war, iron man, car pick event and show & shine. Ladies attractions around this area will include a hospitality area just for ladies with comedians, Lloyd Jasen, Keeno and more. On track action for the TOW SHOW includes a couple of demo runs for tow trucks on the main straight, Hook up and go as well as a reverse race will be on the oval and there will also be spinning and drifting Demos at various times of the day. Kiddie’s entertainment and various food stalls will also be available around the new pit facility
Street2Strip action will take place after all the MSA official events are over and run until about 10pm.
Various food stalls will be available at the facility or you are welcome to bring your own.
