JapMotion Club Shoot

24 May 2012 No Comment

My Saturday morning started off as normal until my phone ring. On the other side of the line was Shahiem Bell. The man was standing in front in my driveway, all geared up and ready to go. A couple of weeks ago I received an invite from JapMotion Toyota Car club to join them for a private gathering for club members only at Auto Developments. They asked SSJ Concepts to do a private shoot and at the same time invited AM to join in with the fun. I’ve tagged Shahiem along and by midday we were off to meet up with the crew at Wembley Roadhouse where we joined the convoy.
My first encounter with the club was a show in Atlantis early last year. Since then their cars have improved a lot on the cosmetic and speed side. I spoke to Lu about the club and this is what he had to say…

Who is JapMotion Toyota Owners Club?

JapMotion was originally started in 2008 by Lucian Ward and four friends. The club consisted of only 7 cars. The club never really took off to be big at the time. We then decided to leave the idea of starting a club. Lucian Ward then decided to pursue this club again and asked Ashley Wilkinson and 3 other friends to help start the club. We then went into planning as to how we would go about starting the club, getting the logo in place as well as the stickers. We wanted the club to be open to all Toyota models that had a distinctive, unique look. So because of that we didn’t want to just target one suburb we wanted members to join from all over the Cape Town area. Then on the 6th April 2010 we had our official launch of the club at Kenilworth Center middle deck parking. Flyers had been going around on Facebook for weeks before the event. On the night of the launch to our surprise the entire bottom floor parking and middle deck parking were completely full of cars, 80% of the cars being Toyotas from all over as far as from Ocean view to Atlantis.

We then started to do park off events at different locations once a month, to our surprise still every single park off had an amazing turnout of cars but more specifically a great amount of Toyotas. We then started memberships and partnering up with successful media and car industry groups such as Boost SA, SSJ Concepts, Auto Modified and Wicked Promotions. The club grew dramatically and still seems to be going strong with an average of 25 – 30 members in the club. Members come from all in the northern suburbs, southern suburbs we even have a few members in Atlantis and Saldanha. The passion and love for Toyota is what draws us all closer. As we like to put it, we are family, all born under the same Japanese rising sun. In 2012 JapMotion Toyota Owners Club then formed a team of strong members together to create a planning team. We then partnered up with a local radio station called Vibe Radio. The partnership between the club and the radio station has to date been incredible and each and every event that we plan together always seem to be a remarkable success. This club basically stays strong because of the family environment that we have, always helping each other and supporting and even just keeping a family reunion twice a month where all members come together to chat and enjoy our time together.

AM: What is your aim and focus as a club?
Our goal is to be different to all the car clubs that you see at events today and at the same time we want to place Toyota on the map for all people to see the potential of our favorite brand of car. We have meetings once a month in the southern suburbs, sometimes twice a month if necessary.

AM: What are the club’s plans for future growth or change?
Our plans for the future of the club are being achieved quite quickly. We plan to team up with a workshop sometime soon as well, where we can fit different parts and prepare our cars for shows or the track. A shop where we can go to for spares and also get import parts from, also to have bodywork done.

AM: How can I become a member of JapMotion Toyota Owners Club?
Lucian Ward is the Chairman of the club. If anyone is interested in joining the club they can get hold of us at any event they see us at or they can find us on Facebook by searching our group JapMotion Toyota Owners Club, or they can call Lucian Ward on 0725340928. All cars that want to join get inspected and approved if we see the potential of the car.

AM: Lastly, any Free plug (members in the club, family, anyone that supports your club).
This club has been a great success thus far and we would really like to thank a couple of people and supporters who helped us and keep on helping us achieve all the goals we set in place. From the bottom of our oil sumps, JapMotion Toyota owners club would like to thank Shiraz and the SSJ Concepts Team, Joe Klein from Auto Modified, Jason and Natalie from Boost SA and our radio support Lance, Garth, Chad and PJ from Vibe Radio SA, then last but not least we want to thank all our members for being true to the family name and we want to thank the planning team for their hard work and dedication.

Lucian “Lu” Ward
Chairman of JapMotion Toyota Owners Club

Wow, what a mouth full Lu! It was really fun hanging out with the club and taking some pics.  I really feel honored and looking forward to your next hook up. Shiraz, remember, panoramic shots do work.
Until next time, God Bless…
