Sunday 25th July 2010: Killarney MSA Drags & Gymkhana + Soundoff
Sun 25th July – MSA DRAGS, GYMKHANA & SOUNDOFF & more. 9am till +-5pm
Admission is R30pp, U16 R10, U12 free. Gates open at 8am.
Sunday will be another exciting day at Killarney Racing Circuit where speed and sound will be the order of the day. Action packed drag racing will take place on the main straight with practice from 9am and competition rounds starting at noon and running into the late afternoon. The oval side of the circuit will have a gymkhana competition taking place there from mid morning and running until each competitor has had their allocated number of runs. This can become very exciting when the competition it tight or if there are a couple of rear wheel drive powered machines in the mix.
The New Pit facility, centrally located between both on track activities, will be the venue for the SOUNDOFF competition.
This event is being hosted by BoyzToyz and you can contact Paul on 0769489235.
GP Motor Racing Club will also be hosting a Kids area with Mini Quad bikes, Jumping Castle and a Show and Shine for the Dads and Moms Cars around the NEW PITS.
Action on the Drag strip promises to be very exciting as a vehicle carrier is confirmed to be bringing down some huge amount of horse power from the North West province. These vehicles include a special return appearance of Denis Geyer in his Rotary powered Mazda RX7 as well as a 323 Turbo Rotary. His vehicle carrier will be joined by the likes of Ivan Cotze (Ford Escort Cosworth Turbo), a 600kw Ford Escort powered by a Turbo Toyota motor & brothers Gert & Coert Pieterse (Turbo / Nitro Nissan Champ bakkie). These 6 cars coming from far up country will be a very interesting addition to the day.
Adding even more to this attraction will be a large hand full of Supermoto racing competitors joining both the drag racing and gymkhana action. These bikes are hugely spectacular as they are dirt machines fitted with slick tyres so if its not sliding it usually has its front wheel in the air. These bikes are great fun to watch at Short Circuit Racing events hosted at Killarney and promise to be just as exciting on Sunday.
At recent events we have seen some hugely fast times. Willie Nel (Can-Am), Luc Lucchesi (Opel Corsa) & Hermann Mostert (Nissan Champ) have all been in the 10 second bracket recently, could they make it a sub 10sec run on Sunday. Other top running competitors to look out for include Bradley Van Roy and Ikraam Bulbulia (VW) are being closely chased in Class B by Waleed Bassadien (in another VW), Kamaak Basardien (Datsun) is being chased by Leon Davids (Ford Escort) and Tousseef Haroun (Opel Kadett). Class D front runners include Munneb Abdullief (Datsun), Mohamed Sattar (VW) and Brendan Moore is close behind in his constantly improving Beachbug.
Recent Killarney gymkhanas have also seen some fast times and very impressive driving with the likes of Mike Nathan (BMW M3 CSL), Brent Laurings (Opel Kadett) & Paul Fox (VW) to name a few.
Race entries will be at the main gate caravan from 8am till 9.30am, scrutineering till 10am. MSA licence will be available at entries from R300 (quicker than 13 sec requires WPMC membership & medical cover)
