Motown American Parts Chev Firenza Build

22 November 2011 8 Comments

Over the years Motown has become one of those name that you associate with awesome V8 power. Motown is based down here in Cape Town. Ralph the owner has been rebuilding his 1000HP Chev Firenza Can Am over the last couple of months to hopefully brake into the 8 second bracket. His car used to run 9′s down the Killarney strip a good couple of times. So we managed to borrow a couple of the build pics of his rebuild, Ralph is now aiming a little lower down on the time clock. 8′s seem pretty much possible these days.
This is what the Chev has under gone so far and this was the Can Am in her 9 Second state not so long ago.

Packed up on her trailer with the doors off, ready for the make over process to begin. This is how you do a job right the 1st time round.

So the process of build a 8 second car begins here. The Chev Firenza is treated to a full suspension rebuild and a couple other goodies..

With all the suspension back in and complete its time to add the reworked Diff and the awesome Drag wing. The car is coming together very nicely so far.

The interior was treated to an improved rollcage. To say the least the car is looking like something out of a scary movie. A side profile can tell a 1000 words but the injectors will be able to tell you something else!

The next step was to do the engine over with a couple of trick bits here and there. More bits here than there of course. This is how you build a high powered V8 and if you want it done correctly you should probably get it done at Motown. To date they are responsible for producing some of Cape Towns most impressive muscle cars. If this is not motor porn then I don’t know what is….

The 2 beautiful ladies that you see above will be helping the 8 injectors reach the finish line in hopefully 8 seconds. You are Basically your looking at 5000cc injectors here (yes that’s a total of 40,000cc), ohh and they cost in the region of  R3500 each (cough cough)! I think Ralph’s going to need to be towing more than just a extra fuel cell down the drag strip.

All back together and ready to be dropped into the Chev’s engine bay. Something just tells me the engine has a few more horses than last time around.

Next the Turbos were marked out so that the turbo manifolds could be made up. Another bit of useful info is that these turbos are good for 700 Horses and there are 2 of them, do the math!
The Chev is pretty much there now, all that needs to be done is the wiring, exhausts, mapping and finer details like fitting Lexan windows and finding out if Ralph really wants to power this beast down Killarney strip at full throttle.

Builds like these only show the kind of workmanship that goes into producing a car of this calibre, if you want anything close to this for your American muscle then we suggest you go check out Motowns Facebook Fan Page for more info on the work they do or you could just make your way over to their website.
