Rides and Vibes Car and Bike Show – Event Coverage

Accompanied by Mr Paul Walker Pakoe, we once again hit the streets of CPT in search of a car show and the smell of Meguair’s lead us to the “Rides and Vibes Car and Bike Show”.
All of this went down at Groote Schuur High School in Newlands on Saturday. They were blessed with some nice summer weather and the turnout speaks for itself. On arrival we were greeted by a fleet of shining metal and the smell of suntan lotion. Once again Cape Town modfathers and sisters supported an event …

BM Squad Hook Up at Queens

I remember taking that Sunday afternoon cruise to Sea Point just to check out the guys showing off their pimped out rides. On Sunday I decided to take that same cruise but this time around to Queens Beach. One of Cape Town’s biggest BMW car clubs was having a hook up and photo shoot with SSJ Concepts.
The club has been around for a while and always tries to support the local car scene, pulling up at almost every car show event. They sport some pretty impressive rides ranging from drop …

Mardigras 2012 – D1S Drift Exhibition

I attended the D1S drift session at the 2012 Madigras with my matie Mr Cothill and his super sleek Nissan Silvia which has just been resprayed a glossy black by Dragon Customs.
Mardigras 2012 took place over 2 weekends and seemed to be quite entertaining. This was the 1st year that D1S has been invited to exhibit at the Mardigras Carnival. There were loads of cars sliding around the parking lot and the crowd enjoyed every second of it.. The parking lot had to be wet regularly to protect the surface …

Intercoolers explained – Modification Tips

We all know that cold Air carries more oxygen that warmer air. You may have noticed that when air is compressed it gets warmer. With forced air induction engines which us a turbo or a supercharger the air is much warmer than in an engine that doesn’t have forced induction.

Intercoolers work much like the radiator of a car. The cold air from outside is forced through the fins of the intercooler to where the warm charge air is contained. This has the effect of reducing the warm air stored in …

Pimp Daddy – Random Image

Its been a while since we have posted a “Random Image” on Automodified. I came across this awesome image of this BMW M3 E92 with a set of Works wheels with a super sweet Pearlescent paint job on them. Does anybody know of a car in South Africa with Pearlescent wheels on it?

Streetmod Motorshow – Event Coverage

I took some time off from my hectic schedule to make a turn at the annual Streetmod Motorshow over the weekend. Thanks to Marlize Hoon for dragging me along. This event took place at the Good Hope Centre and was one promising one not to be missed by all petrolheads. Once again the Mother City’s modfathers and sisters didn’t disappoint the crowd.
The main floor was packed with some awesome metal ranging from some of the hottest hotrods to Cape Town’s finest modified mobiles. The basement was allocated to the …

Stance – Explained

Not too long ago I did a write up called: “From a judge’s point of view”. This was some useful tips for all our “show and shine” petrol heads. So, it’s just fair that I do something on Stance. This is to clear the confusion between the two as most petrol heads confuse the one with the other.

Stance is all about rims with a lot of offset, stretched tyres, and negative camber. To achieve that “perfect” stance-look, you must have suspension modifications that will allow your car to sit closer …

4 Pot NA Mashup – NA engine wars

Possibly the most used engines when it comes to 2L NA power (majority 16 valve). And we couldn’t give it to you without the ride option. What you think?

We start with Nissan and its SR20VE Neo VVL

It produces 139 kW@7000 rpm and 196 Nm @6000 rpm and later 150 kW@7200 rpm and 206 nm @5200 rpm, add a few bolt-on components, who know where you would end up.
