The EMMA Strikes Back

“Yours Truly”: So MC Byron, are you OK with your condition?

MC Byron       : Yeah sure, wait what condition?

“Yours Truly”: The one we were just discussing with your girlfriend!

MC Byron       : That condition! (to be frank his eyes scare me a little…)

Thus began the EMMA 2010 finals.

Demon racing kicked off handling the SPL side of things with all their proceeds going to the Ina Wicker animal shelter in Benoni. This is in fond memory of Ina Wicker who recently passed away. A new shelter is being built on her property. A well supported side of the event with some huge numbers being slapped on the displays.

For SQ, the challenge is to build an audio or multimedia system that will overcome the problems of vehicle acoustics, reproducing music without noise, distortion and to make the music sound like the “original” – also the installation quality will be evaluated. With EMMA handling the SQ side of the competition, the entries were of incredibly high standards, seeing installs that display the ethos of passion which people flocked from all over Gauteng to enjoy. A neat little bit of info: the EMMA SQ gives points for showing your car thus swinging it nicely into a show and shine as well, its about the ride, not numbers!

There were some captivating, and I mean totally enthralling displays on show. The most “off the sidewalk” Clarion pickup, the DLS van and of course, not to mention the Speed & sound Nivara doing a live install on site. Its incredible the amount of preparation that goes into it. The entire morning was spent stripping, laying cabling and matting!

A separate area for car clubs saw the emergence of a new club, dad ‘n boy, Jeff and Steve displayed their “sic tunes” pickups! Loved the logo! I have been keeping an eye on Steve’s “Focal” install on his Corsa (or wait, is it a Chevy now) bakkie. This SQ ride is the neatest I have seen in a while. They are based in Rivonia and anyone wanting to join can contact Jeff on 0836304228. There are no membership fees, only comraderie… Bonus!

Anthony Croft

“Yours Truly”: What do they call you?

Anthony Croft: Ant

“Yours Truly”: Where’s your girlfriend today?

Anthony Croft: Running late again, she’ll be here short

“Yours Truly”: How often did you kak on the guys to get this together?

Anthony Croft: Not once, the guys all have a passion so it was quite smooth

Had a chat with one of the lady competitors, Mia, who hails from Randburg boasting an Alpine head unit with an Inprint audio processor, 2.5 farad cap, 1 Digital Design 12 inch sub, a Focal Polyglass two way kit, a Phoenix Gold 4 way amp and a Phoenix Gold monoblock and if you’re not too sure, her name embossed on the impeccable instalation! This 23 year old marketing coordinator started her journey when her husband dragged her off to the Castrol motor show in 2008. This is when she decided to get involved as a competitor, WOW!

A massive shout out to all the judges “the Merry Men”, their months of planning and hard work, the sponsors and to all the competitors and spectators who made this a fantastic event. It was definately the finest motoring display i have seen all year, grantedm i could not get out of the bed on sunday… old age creeps up!

Girls and rides, what more could anyone want!
