The G-spot Lounge Park Off

4 November 2010 7 Comments

I received an invite from Ivan, owner of the Mk1 & Mk2 Cortina club, to show off my ride at “The G-spot Lounge” in Epping Industria on the 31st October. This was in support of a jazz/salsa competition, a fundraising event in aid of an orphanage home, “Huis Leerport”, Kuilsriver. The “Park Off” started at 2 o’clock followed by the jazz/salsa competition at 8 o’clock. With weather like that, it was sure to be a nice turn out!

All petrol heads had to meet at the Total Garage behind Grand West Casino, Goodwood, at 13:30. By the time I got there, a number of cars were already standing in the parking area- all of them surrounded by “Wild Envy”. The cars standing in the parking area amazed me. There were Hot Rods, Ford Cortina Mk 1 and 2’s, a Ford 20M, a Ford Galaxy 500, a Chevrolet Biscayne, a Chevrolet Impala, all of them perfectly restored and dated back to the 1950’s! Most of them wore shoes as big as 20 inches and packed with V8 engines! I had to park my sleeper on the other side of the parking area, lol! There was a red and black 1956 Chevy Bel-Air, not only catching my eyes, but most of the crowd’s eyes. It has been totally restored-the chassis, body, engine, interior, as well as the sound system! There were also the familiar faces, Neville, with his burnt orange Escort, sporting an import SAMCOR 1500 Turbo motor, and Yaseen with his “Caddylicious” pink Caddy bakkie, with some new shoes and fresh paint job.

We drove in a convoy to “The G-spot Lounge” in Epping Industria, where the “Park Off” took place. Bush Radio broadcasted live from the parking lot. The crowd enjoyed the cars and so did I. One of the Hot Rods blew my mind away with its fully chromed 302 V8 engine. Even the suspension has been chromed. Mr Fisher later joined us with the infamous Apollo VW- van. This van is fitted with a V8 Rover engine! It also has a fully functional HD 42 inch plasma linked to a PS 3 and bass kicking sound system! It was nice chatting and catching up the petrol heads. This is just the start of many “Park Off’s” to come, so stay tuned…

Until next time, keep it clean and spotless…God Bless!

JK
